Overview

The FARO GRUND is a recessed floor spotlight designed for outdoor use. Its compact size makes it a discreet and effective solution for marking paths, bordering a terrace, defining the limits of a patio, or illuminating specific details on a façade. It takes up no visual space, but performs its function well: guiding, delimiting, and adding depth to outdoor nighttime spaces.

The spotlight emits warm light at 2700K, a temperature that enhances ambiance without being too intense. It operates at 24V DC, making it suitable for installations where safety is a priority, such as gardens with foot traffic or outdoor wet areas. The LED module is already included, so there is no need to search for any compatible bulb.

FARO is a company with decades of experience in lighting. Its catalog covers everything from interior lamps to specialized outdoor solutions, and the GRUND reflects that line of work: functional, well-built pieces designed to last under real-world conditions.

Installation and specifications

To install this recessed floor spotlight outdoors, it is necessary to prepare a suitable junction box in the pavement or surface where it will be embedded. The body dimensions are 21 x 21 mm and 50 mm deep, so it is important to ensure that the resulting cavity matches those measurements. As this is a 24V DC spotlight, the installation requires a transformer or power supply compatible with that voltage. It is recommended that the electrical connection work be carried out by a qualified installer.

For maintenance of the recessed spotlight, simply clean the diffuser glass with a soft, slightly damp cloth. Do not use abrasive products or solvents on the aluminum body or on the black finish. Check occasionally that the installation area does not accumulate standing water around the spotlight, especially during rainy periods.

Design and use

The GRUND is an outdoor recessed spotlight designed to be installed at floor level. Its body is made of aluminum with a black finish, a material that holds up well in outdoor conditions and requires no special maintenance. The diffuser is made of transparent glass, which allows the light to emerge cleanly and without distortion, with all the intensity of the LED module directed where it is needed.

Size is one of the most relevant features of this spotlight. At just 21 mm in diameter, it virtually disappears into the surface where it is installed. This makes it useful in situations where the lamp should not draw attention during the day, but should make its presence felt when night falls. In a garden, for example, a row of recessed spotlights of this type along an access path creates a neat and clear effect without visually overwhelming the space.

On a terrace, the recessed spotlight can be installed along the perimeter or bordering stairs, guiding foot traffic without the need for elevated fixtures. The result is lighting that is there when needed, without interfering with the rest of the outdoor design. In an enclosed patio with stone or wood paving, this type of floor spotlight fits well because it does not interrupt the continuity of the surface.

The 2700K color temperature produces a warm light that integrates well with natural materials such as wood, stone, or exposed concrete. It is not task lighting or high-power illumination, but rather ambient light that defines contours and adds texture to the outdoor environment during dark hours. On a façade, it can be used to subtly highlight joints, steps, or changes in level.

The included LED module consumes only 1W, making it an efficient option for installations where several recessed spotlights are used in series. In path or access lighting with multiple points, the total consumption remains low. The 24V DC operating voltage also contributes in this regard, as it allows several spotlights to be connected to the same centralized power supply, which is common in well-planned garden installations.

The aluminum body withstands continuous outdoor exposure. The black finish remains stable against temperature changes and ambient humidity. The combination of aluminum and glass in such a small piece reflects the care taken with materials, which makes sense in a floor luminaire because the installation is fixed and is not changed frequently.

Questions and answers

Does the GRUND work when directly connected to the 220V mains supply?

No. This spotlight operates at 24V DC, so it requires an external transformer or power supply to convert the mains voltage to 24V DC. That component is not included and must be purchased separately depending on the number of recessed spotlights to be installed.

Can the glass diffuser break if accidentally stepped on?

The diffuser is made of transparent glass and is designed for floor-level outdoor installations. Although it is not designed to withstand direct footsteps with concentrated load, its recessed position in the floor reduces that risk. In areas with heavy foot traffic, it is advisable to consider the placement of each recessed spotlight before installation.

Is the included LED module replaceable if it stops working?

The spotlight includes an integrated LED module. In luminaires of this type, the module is not usually straightforward to replace at home. If the light source stops working outside the warranty period, the most appropriate course of action is to consult a qualified installer or customer service.
