Overview

SAGA is an outdoor pendant lamp designed by Carrasquet for FARO. It is intended for open-air spaces where a light source with presence is desired: a large terrace, an entrance porch, an inner courtyard, or a covered garden area. Its large-format shade — 519 mm in diameter — covers the illuminated area well, without looking small or losing visual impact.

The orange finish on the exterior gives it a defined character. This is not a pendant luminaire that goes unnoticed: when lit, its shape and color become part of the atmosphere. The white interior of the diffuser works quietly but effectively, concentrating light downward and improving its performance. The result is directed illumination, without unnecessary dispersion.

FARO is a Spanish company with decades of experience in outdoor and indoor lighting. Its products combine technical criteria with a design that pays attention to materials and how they age under real conditions of use.

Installation and specifications

Installing this lamp requires an anchor point on the ceiling prepared for outdoor use. Since this is a suspension luminaire, it is advisable to verify that the ceiling structure — whether of a pergola, a porch, or a covered gallery — can support the weight of the assembly. The wiring must be protected and suitable for outdoor use. It is recommended that installation be carried out by a qualified electrician, especially if the light point does not already exist. Before connecting, check that the mains voltage corresponds to the range indicated by the manufacturer.

The aluminum shade and PEMD diffuser can be cleaned with a soft, slightly damp cloth. Do not use abrasive products or solvents, as they may damage the orange exterior finish. Periodically check the anchor points and the condition of the cable to detect any deterioration resulting from exposure to the elements. When you need to change the bulb, always disconnect the power before handling the lamp holder.

Design and use

The SAGA lamp starts from a simple form — a wide shade in suspension — and develops it with materials and proportions that give it visual solidity. The body is made of aluminum, a material that responds well to temperature changes and the usual humidity in covered outdoor spaces. It does not deform or lose rigidity over time, ensuring that the shade maintains its position and appearance without frequent adjustments.

The diffuser is made of PEMD with an opal finish. This finish diffuses light evenly, preventing the bulb from appearing as a high-intensity point source. The white interior of the shade acts as a reflector: it collects the light emitted by the source and projects it downward in an orderly manner. On a terrace or in a courtyard, this translates into a well-defined area of light, without irregular halos at the edges.

The orange of the exterior is a color that works both day and night. During the day, it visually defines the space and marks a point of interest on the ceiling. At night, when the lamp is on, the contrast between the orange exterior and the warm light coming through the diffuser creates an effortless atmosphere. It is a combination that fits both modern settings and environments with a more rustic character, depending on the context in which it is installed.

With its dimensions — 519 mm in diameter — this pendant luminaire is suitable for medium and large spaces. On an access porch of a single-family home it can serve as the sole light source and cover the passageway well. In a garden with a covered seating area, it functions as a central lighting point. It is also a valid option for a large balcony or for an enclosed gallery where a visually substantial light source is desired.

Outdoor lights have a dual role: functional and atmospheric. SAGA fulfills both. As a light source, the large-format shade distributes illumination over a generous surface. As a decorative element, its shape and color speak for themselves. It is not a lamp that imitates an old lantern or that seeks a neutral style to go unnoticed. It has its own identity, grounded in concrete materials and clear design decisions.

The use of an E27 LED bulb — not included — is a practical detail. This cap type is one of the most common on the market, making it easy to find an option with the color temperature that best suits the space. A warm light accentuates the orange of the body and reinforces the welcoming atmosphere. A more neutral light can give a cleaner, more contemporary result.

SAGA is a proposal from FARO that fits into outdoor renovation projects where something more than a functional lamp is sought. The lights of a space define how that place is perceived as night falls, and this pendant lamp is designed so that perception is positive from the very first day.

Questions and answers

Does the PEMD diffuser withstand prolonged exposure to sun and rain outdoors?

PEMD is a material designed to endure outdoor use conditions. It maintains its properties with regular exposure to the elements, although it is recommended to install it under a roof or in covered areas, such as a porch or a pergola, to extend its service life.

Can any wattage E27 bulb be used, or is there a limit?

The lamp accepts E27 LED bulbs with a maximum power of 12 W. Exceeding this value is not recommended, as it could affect the performance of the assembly or generate excessive heat inside the shade.

The body is aluminum with an orange finish. Can that color deteriorate over time due to outdoor exposure?

The aluminum finish is resistant, but like any outdoor surface it can be cumulatively affected by extreme conditions. Periodic cleaning with a soft cloth helps to keep the color and appearance of the body in good condition for longer.
