Overview

The FARO SAU 130 is an outdoor spotlight with a GU10 socket, designed to illuminate gardens, entrances, and open-air areas where you want to highlight something specific: a plant, a tree, a stone wall, or any decorative element in the surroundings. Its body is made of aluminium with a black finish, with a transparent diffuser that lets light through without filtering it excessively.

The spotlight is wall-mounted and features IP65 protection, meaning it can withstand both direct rain and dust. It does not require special conditions to perform well outdoors — it is built for that purpose. It also includes an optional accessory that allows it to be converted into a ground spike, expanding placement options without the need to purchase an additional part.

FARO is a brand with a well-established presence in the lighting sector. Its products combine careful design with materials built to last. The SAU 130 follows that same approach: no unnecessary details, with a finish that fits well in modern gardens as well as more understated spaces.

Installation and specifications

To install this spotlight on a wall, it is recommended to have an existing outdoor junction box or to prepare the electrical point before fixing the spotlight. Installation must be carried out by a qualified electrician. Make sure the support is firm and suitable for outdoor use, and that the wiring is properly protected before switching on the unit. If the spike accessory is used, it is advisable to drive the base into stable ground and check that the spotlight is correctly oriented before securing it in place.

To clean the aluminium body, a dry or slightly damp cloth is sufficient. Abrasive products or solvents that could damage the black finish should not be used. The glass diffuser is cleaned in the same way, without excessive pressure. Although the spotlight has IP65 protection, it is advisable to periodically check the connection points to ensure there is no accumulated moisture in areas where there should not be any.

Design and use

The SAU 130 is a compact-profile spotlight projector that works well when you want to direct light toward a specific point without the luminaire drawing more attention than what it illuminates. The black aluminium body is discreet, with clean lines that do not clash with modern facades, wooden fences, or gardens with well-kept vegetation.

The transparent glass diffuser allows the light beam to emerge without spreading too much, which is useful when the goal is to highlight textures or shapes: the trunk of a tree, a large-leafed plant, a garden sculpture, or the cladding of a wall. The LED light emitted by the spotlight reaches where it is aimed without scattering to the sides.

As an outdoor spotlight, the SAU 130 has IP65 protection. This makes it suitable for installations in areas exposed to rain or ambient humidity, without the need to protect it with any additional cover. The aluminium also helps: it is a material that does not oxidise easily and maintains its finish well over time, even in gardens with frequent irrigation.

The spotlight accepts a GU10 socket with an LED bulb included and operates within a voltage range of 100V to 240V, making it compatible with standard installations in Spain and other countries without any adaptations. The maximum power is 5W, which represents a contained consumption for continuous outdoor use.

One of the distinguishing features of this spotlight is the possibility of installing it as a ground spike using an included accessory. This allows it to be placed among plants, at the base of a tree, or along a garden path, directing the beam upward or diagonally depending on where it is most appropriate. It is a practical option when there is no nearby wall or when a lighting effect that rises from the ground toward the vegetation is preferred.

In terms of possible combinations, the SAU 130 works well alongside other spotlights of the same model distributed at different points in the garden to create uniform lighting without shadowed areas. It can also be used as a spot light in a specific corner, complementing more general lighting from another source, such as a terrace lamp or recessed floor lights.

The compact size of the spotlight, with a height of 130 mm and a diameter of 60 mm, means it goes unnoticed during the day. It does not take up visual space or interfere with the garden design when it is not switched on. As night falls, it fulfils its function without requiring any attention.

Questions and answers

Does the spike accessory come included in the box or does it need to be purchased separately?

The spike accessory is described as optional and included with the spotlight. It comes in the same box and allows the spotlight to be installed directly in the ground without the need to mount it on a wall.

Is IP65 protection sufficient for areas with frequent rain or sprinkler irrigation?

Yes. The IP65 rating indicates that the spotlight is protected against dust and against water jets from any direction, making it suitable for outdoor use in direct rain or in gardens with irrigation systems.

Can the black aluminium body lose its colour over time due to sun exposure?

Aluminium is a weather-resistant material and the black finish is designed for outdoor use. With basic maintenance, such as occasionally cleaning the surface with a dry cloth, the spotlight maintains its appearance well for years.
