Overview

A large PAR38 reflector bulb with an E27 cap. It gives 850 lm of cool white light at 4000K in a 60° beam and draws 10 W.

PAR38 bulbs are used in spike lights, floodlight holders and large spot fittings, where the bulb itself forms the beam.

Installation and specifications

The cap is a standard E27 screw. The bulb is big: 120 mm across the front and 134 mm long, so check that the fitting is made for PAR38. Screw it in by hand with the power off. The bulb has no IP rating of its own; outdoors it must be used in a fitting that protects it as that fitting requires.

Design and use

Cool white light at 4000K reads as clear and neutral, which is why it is often chosen for gardens, driveways and entrances, and for work areas indoors. The 60° beam covers a planting bed or a section of wall from a few metres away.
