Overview

STAND UP is a floor lamp designed by Estudi Ribaudí for FARO. It has height adjustment, which allows it to adapt to different spaces and lighting needs without any hassle. The linen shade provides warm, diffused light, without annoying glare or harsh shadows.

This lamp fits well in a living room, bedroom, or any corner where ambient light is wanted without being intrusive. The base is stable and the overall unit is lightweight, so moving it from place to place requires no effort at all. The matte black finish on the aluminium body gives it a clean look that pairs with many interior styles without drawing too much attention to itself.

FARO is a Spanish brand with decades of experience in interior lighting. Their products typically combine functionality with careful design, conceived for everyday home use.

Installation and specifications

For installation, simply place the lamp on the floor in the chosen spot and plug it into a standard outlet. No building work or tools are required. Before installing the bulb, make sure the cable is not connected to the power supply. Use an E27 LED bulb of up to 15 W, which is not included with the product. Adjust the height to suit the space where you will use it before switching it on for the first time.

To clean the aluminium body, use a dry or slightly damp cloth. Avoid abrasive products or solvents that could damage the matte black finish. The linen shade can be cleaned with a soft, dry cloth. Do not expose the lamp to high humidity or install it in a bathroom or kitchen near water areas. Periodically check the condition of the cable and the height adjustment points.

Design and use

The STAND UP floor lamp by FARO addresses a very specific need: having a flexible light source that does not depend on the ceiling's electrical installation and can be moved from room to room without any complications. There are no cables to hide in the wall and no fixed wiring. All that is needed is a nearby outlet.

The body is made of aluminium with a matte black finish. It is a resistant yet lightweight material, which explains why the lamp weighs less than two kilograms despite reaching 1750 mm in height. That height is sufficient for it to function as a conventional floor lamp, projecting light at the right level for reading, working, or simply creating a warmer atmosphere in the space.

The linen shade is one of the elements that most defines the character of this lamp. Linen is a natural fabric that filters light in a particular way: it softens it, distributes it evenly, and gives it a warm tone that is pleasant in rest spaces. In a bedroom, that diffused light helps create a calmer atmosphere than a bare bulb would. In a dining room, it adds warmth without reducing visibility.

The height adjustment system is another noteworthy feature. Not all spaces have the same proportions, and being able to adjust the lamp prevents it from sitting too high or too low relative to the furniture or corner where it is placed. This is also useful when moving it to a different room: what works in the living room may not look right in the bedroom if it cannot be adapted.

In terms of style, the matte black and the linen shade form a combination that works in modern, Nordic, or minimalist interiors. It also pairs well alongside wooden elements, as the contrast between dark metal and warm wooden surfaces is a common resource in contemporary décor. It is not a lamp that imposes a specific style, but rather one that adapts to what is already in the space.

It is a practical option for a hallway, although its main purpose is the living room or bedroom. In a wider hallway it can serve as an additional light point that marks the entrance or a transition area. In the living room, it complements a sofa or armchair well, creating a reading nook without the need to install fixed lighting. In the bedroom, it can replace a bedside lamp when the space next to the bed is limited.

The use of LED technology (E27) keeps energy consumption low, with a maximum of 15 W. The compatible voltage ranges from 100 V to 240 V, making it suitable for any standard domestic installation. The bulb is not included, so it is worth choosing one with a colour temperature suited to the intended use: warmer for rest environments, more neutral if it will be used for reading or working.

Questions and answers

What type of bulb is compatible with this floor lamp and what is the maximum permitted wattage?

The lamp is compatible with E27 base bulbs in LED format. The maximum permitted wattage is 15 W. The bulb is not included with the product, so it must be purchased separately.

Does the height adjustment system work without tools?

Yes. The height adjustment is designed to be done by hand, with no additional tools required. It allows the lamp to be adapted to different spaces or moved to a new location without any hassle.

Does the linen shade affect the amount of light emitted by the lamp?

Linen is a fabric that filters and diffuses light, so the resulting illumination is softer and more even than that of a bare bulb. It is suitable for ambient lighting in a living room or bedroom, although it is not intended for intense functional lighting.
