Overview

The LAO floor lamp by FARO is a floor luminaire that is part of a designer collection created by the Nahtrang studio. The complete series includes a wall light, a ceiling light, and a track spotlight, and is now expanded with this floor version. The result is a lamp that maintains the same visual language across all formats: clean lines, balanced proportions, and a combination of matte black with copper details.

It is designed for the living room or bedroom, where a warm light source is needed that does not take up too much visual space or draw too much attention. The floor stand works well in those corners where hanging something from the ceiling is not an option, or where you simply want to add a light point without any construction work.

FARO is a Spanish brand with decades of experience in interior and exterior lighting. Their products combine European design with careful manufacturing, and the LAO collection is a good example of that balance between functionality and aesthetics.

Installation and specifications

No additional electrical installation is required to place this lamp. Simply find the right spot, rest it on the floor and plug it into a standard socket. The cable should be kept tidy and away from areas of foot traffic to avoid tripping. It is not recommended to install it near heat sources or in spaces with high humidity, such as the bathroom, unless the product is expressly verified to have adequate IP protection for that environment.

For maintenance, simply clean the surface with a soft, dry cloth. Abrasive products or liquids that could damage the matte black finish or the opal diffuser should not be used. The LED light source is integrated and included, so there is no need to worry about changing bulbs.

Design and use

The LAO living room floor lamp has a height of 1220 mm, which places it at an appropriate proportion for everyday living spaces. It is not a tall, slender lamp in the Nordic style, nor a piece of great volume. Its length of 100 mm and depth of 200 mm give it a compact profile that takes up little floor space, something that is appreciated in rooms where every centimetre counts.

The body is made of aluminium and ABS, a combination that offers good resistance with a contained weight. The matte black finish gives it presence without appearing visually heavy. This combination works well alongside light wood elements, such as a natural wood floor or a solid wood piece of furniture, where the contrast between black and the warm tones of the wood feels balanced and contemporary.

The diffuser is made of opal PMMA, a material that disperses light gently, without creating areas of excessive brightness. The colour temperature is 3000K, which corresponds to a warm white light, similar to that produced by a traditional incandescent bulb. This type of lighting is particularly suitable for the living room or bedroom, where a relaxed atmosphere is sought rather than intense working light.

The 4W power output may seem low, but in a floor lamp with an opal diffuser and LED SMD technology, it is sufficient to generate a warm, functional light point in a corner or next to an armchair. It is not designed to illuminate an entire room, but rather to complement general lighting with a more intimate and localised focus. In that sense, it works well in the dining room as ambient light, or in the hallway as a nighttime orientation point.

The LAO collection allows pieces of the same style to be combined at different points within the same space. If you already have the wall light on the bedroom wall or the ceiling light on the hallway ceiling, the floor lamp can be integrated into the living room or dining room while maintaining visual coherence. This type of collection with multiple formats is useful when you want to make a progressive lighting update, without each piece seeming to belong to a different world.

In terms of style, LAO moves in a classic and sober territory. Matte black with copper is a combination that has been present in the world of modern interior design for several years and continues to work well because it does not depend on passing trends. It combines with interiors of clean lines, but can also be integrated into warmer environments with wood elements or natural textiles. It would not look out of place in a dining room with chairs upholstered in neutral tones or in a bedroom with a dark wood headboard.

The lamp weighs 1.53 kg net, making it easy to move if you want to change its position within the room. Being a floor lamp, that flexibility is a real advantage: it can be tried in different corners of the living room or hallway until the point where the light is best distributed is found.
