Overview

The BIC ceiling light by FARO is a large-format ceiling lamp designed for wide spaces where uniform lighting is needed with no shadowed areas. With a 600 mm diameter and a matte white finish, it integrates cleanly into ceilings of living rooms, dining rooms, bedrooms or kitchens without taking up vertical height. Its size makes it a practical solution when you want to cover a large surface area effectively with a single lamp.

What sets this model apart is the ability to dim the light intensity. This means you can adapt the atmosphere to the moment: more brightness when cooking or working, less when you want to relax. A single lamp covers two different situations without changing anything.

FARO is a brand with decades of experience in lighting. Its home catalogue combines functionality with modern, carefully crafted design, intended for everyday indoor use.

Installation and specifications

For installation, a junction box on the ceiling or an existing light point is required. Since this is a surface-mounted lamp fixed directly to the ceiling, no additional suspension elements are needed. It is recommended that electrical installation be carried out by a qualified professional. Before starting any work, make sure to cut the power at the electrical panel.

For cleaning, use a soft dry or slightly damp cloth on the aluminium body and the PMMA diffuser. Avoid abrasive products or solvents that could damage the finish or the diffuser material. Do not clean the lamp while the power is on.

Design and use

The BIC ceiling light has a body made of aluminium with a matte white finish. It is a durable material that does not deform over time and retains its colour well without yellowing. The diffuser is made of opal PMMA, a high-quality plastic that disperses light evenly throughout the room. The result is diffused lighting with no bright spots and no direct glare.

The SMD LED light source is included with the lamp. It operates at 3000K, a warm colour temperature that is close to traditional incandescent light. It is a pleasant tone for spaces where you spend time with family or where you want a relaxed atmosphere. This is one of the most widely used light tones in bedrooms and living rooms because it does not cause eye strain.

The dimming option allows you to adjust the intensity to suit the situation. In the kitchen, you can raise the level when preparing food and lower it when you are simply having a drink. In the dining room, a medium level creates a more intimate atmosphere during dinner. In bedrooms, a low intensity at night makes it easier to rest without having to get up to turn off the lamp. This type of control means the same lamp serves different moments of the day.

With a 600 mm diameter, the BIC covers medium to large spaces well. It is a suitable lamp for living rooms of around 15 to 25 square metres, large dining rooms, open kitchens or large bedrooms. It can also work well in wide hallways or entryways with low ceilings where a pendant lamp would not have enough clearance. On standard-height ceilings, the 145 mm profile means it sits flush against the ceiling without being obtrusive.

The design is clean and unadorned. The square shape with rounded corners and the matte white finish give it a modern look that fits contemporary interiors, whether minimalist or more eclectic. It is a model that does not compete with other elements in the space, but rather integrates discreetly. The neutral style makes it easy to combine with furniture of any colour or material, from natural woods to grey or black finishes.

In terms of the overall spatial design, the BIC works well as the main light when combined with other more directional or decorative lights. In a modern kitchen, for example, it can accompany an LED strip under the cabinets. In a dining room, it can be complemented by a pendant lamp over the table to create two levels of lighting. This combination of ceiling lights with other light points is common in contemporary interior design projects.

In bedrooms, it is usually placed in the centre of the ceiling and complemented by bedside lamps. The matte white of the body blends well with standard white ceilings, so the lamp almost disappears visually during the day.

Questions and answers

Does the BIC ceiling light include the LED light source or does it need to be purchased separately?

The SMD LED light source is already included with the lamp. There is no need to purchase anything additional to start using it from the moment of installation.

Can the opal PMMA diffuser of the BIC yellow over time or due to the heat from the bulb?

PMMA is a stable material that withstands the heat generated by LEDs well. Unlike other plastics, it does not typically yellow under normal domestic use conditions.

Is the BIC ceiling light dimmable with any standard domestic dimmer switch?

For the dimming function to work correctly, a dimmer compatible with LEDs must be used. Not all dimmers on the market are compatible, so it is recommended to verify compatibility before installation.
