Overview

The FARO SPY 145 lamp is a surface-mounted luminaire designed for exterior lighting. It is fixed directly to the wall and can be oriented in the direction of light needed. This makes it useful when there is a specific spot to illuminate: an entrance, a side access, a passageway along the facade.

It features IP65 protection, meaning it handles rain well and is not affected by solid particles in the environment. It can be installed outdoors without worrying about weather conditions. The lamp comes with a COB LED light source included, so there is no need to purchase anything additional to put it into operation.

FARO is a Spanish company with years of experience in the lighting sector. Their products combine durability with careful design, built to perform well both in everyday use and in more demanding conditions.

Installation and specifications

Before installing the lamp, make sure the wall surface is clean, dry and free of irregularities. The wiring must be disconnected from the electrical supply throughout the entire installation. It is recommended that the work be carried out by a certified electrician. Make sure the electrical wiring in the area is compatible with the 220V–240V voltage. The anchors must be securely fixed to the wall so that the luminaire does not move once installed.

To clean the lamp body, use a soft, slightly damp cloth. Avoid abrasive products or solvents that could damage the dark grey finish or the opal glass diffuser. Do not handle the luminaire while it is connected to the mains. Periodically check that the fixing points remain in good condition, especially after periods of strong wind or heavy rain.

Design and use

The SPY 145 lamp is constructed in aluminium, a material that combines lightness with durability. The dark grey finish gives it a sober appearance that integrates well into facades of different styles, from concrete finishes to stone walls or traditional render. It does not draw excessive attention, but it does not go unnoticed when switched on either.

The diffuser is made of opal glass. This type of material distributes light evenly, without creating bright spots or harsh shadows. The colour temperature of 3000K produces a warm light, similar to that of a modern candle, which is pleasant at entrances, gardens and nighttime passageways. It is not a cold working light, but rather a light that accompanies without disturbing.

One of the most practical features of this luminaire is its adjustability. The angle can be set to direct the light beam exactly where needed. This is useful on facades where there is a specific element to highlight, or at entrances where the light needs to fall on a particular point without illuminating areas that are not of interest.

The IP65 protection guarantees that neither rain nor dust will affect the lamp's operation. This makes it suitable for permanent outdoor installation, with no need to protect or remove it during rainy seasons. A fitting with this level of protection can be exposed to the elements for years without its interior being compromised.

The included COB LED light source consumes 6W. This is a moderate output, suitable for accent or orientation lighting. It is not intended to be an industrial beacon or to replace a high-power floodlight, but in a garden, a patio or a terrace it fulfils its function well while consuming very little energy. Two or three units placed strategically can give a facade a very balanced result.

Its compact size, with only 145 mm in height and 95 mm in width and depth, means it takes up minimal visual space on the wall. On facades where space is limited or where the wall surface is small, this luminaire fits without creating a sense of overcrowding. It is also a good option next to front doors, in inner courtyards or side accesses where light is needed but a large lantern is not wanted.

In terms of combinations, the dark grey lamp works well alongside materials such as iron, dark wood or exposed concrete. It can also be used together with other FARO garden lights from the range to create a coherent exterior lighting scheme. The uniformity of the opal light makes it easier for different luminaires placed in the same area not to generate unpleasant contrasts between areas of light and shadow.
