Overview

The SCREEN beacon by FARO is an outdoor lamp designed to illuminate gardens, parks, access paths and green areas in general. It is installed directly in the ground and projects light upward, marking routes or highlighting passageways without the need for additional structures.

The 180º version offers an asymmetric light distribution, allowing the illumination to be directed toward a specific side. It is useful when you want to light a path without the light spreading in all directions. The 3000K color temperature creates a warm atmosphere, without the coldness that white lights sometimes have in open spaces.

The body is made of aluminum and polycarbonate, which gives it mechanical resistance and makes it suitable for permanent outdoor use. FARO is a brand specialized in lighting, with experience in designing solutions for both domestic use and larger-scale projects.

Installation and specifications

For installation, it is recommended to prepare the base in the ground in advance, ensuring that the anchor point is level. As this is a ground-mounted lamp, it is important that the wiring is protected underground with the appropriate type of conduit for outdoor use. The connection must be carried out by a qualified electrician, as the beacon operates on mains power.

For maintenance, simply clean the body with a slightly damp cloth when dirt accumulates. Abrasive products or solvents should not be used on the polycarbonate. Although the lamp has IP65 protection, it is advisable to periodically check that the seals and closures are in good condition to maintain that protection over time.

Design and use

The SCREEN beacon is part of a technical outdoor collection developed by FARO. The aluminum body provides structural solidity, while the transparent polycarbonate diffuser allows light to pass through without distorting it. The dark grey finish integrates well into natural environments, without the lamp drawing too much attention during the day.

The IK10 resistance rating indicates that the body can withstand significant mechanical impacts, which is appreciated in garden areas with frequent activity where accidental knocks may occur. The IP65 protection ensures that rain and solid particles do not affect the internal functioning of the lamp. It does not require special care due to being exposed to the elements.

The light source is COB LED, a technology that concentrates several emission points in a single compact area. This produces more uniform light than a conventional LED, without hot spots visible through the diffuser. At 3000K, the light has a warm tone that does not clash with the natural environment of a garden or patio.

The version with 180º distribution is especially practical for illuminating path edges, outdoor stairs or entrances. By directing all emission to one side, functional lighting is achieved without wasting light on areas that do not need it. It is a more efficient option in those contexts than a beacon with full circular distribution.

At 800 mm in height, the lamp sits at a comfortable level to visually mark a space without being intrusive to the eye. It is not a powerful light source in the sense of general lighting, but rather a piece oriented toward defining routes and creating ambiance. In combination with other garden lights or ground spotlights, it can form a complete lighting scheme for an outdoor space.

The sober design and the 160 mm square base facilitate integration into paved entrances or gardens with defined geometry. It also works well in more natural environments, where the dark grey color of the body blends in with the vegetation and ground materials. The SCREEN collection is designed precisely to go unnoticed during the day and perform its function discreetly when night falls.

Regarding installation, since it is fixed to the ground, it does not interfere with garden elements at height. It is a good option for areas where a conventional lantern or a hanging lamp would not make sense due to the lack of a structure to anchor it to. The working voltage between 100V and 240V makes it compatible with the standard electrical network in most countries.

Questions and answers

What does it mean that the beacon has a 180º distribution and in which cases is it most useful?

The 180º distribution means that the light is emitted toward one side only instead of spreading in all directions. It is especially useful when you want to illuminate a path, a staircase or a specific edge, concentrating the light where it is needed and avoiding illuminating unnecessary areas.

Does the lamp hold up well against rain and continuous outdoor use?

Yes. The beacon has an IP65 rating, which protects against the ingress of projected water and solid particles. It is designed for permanent outdoor installation and does not require additional protection against typical weather conditions.

Is the COB LED light source included or does it need to be purchased separately?

The light source is included. The beacon incorporates a 20W COB LED with a color temperature of 3000K, so no additional components need to be purchased to put it into operation.
