Overview

The FARO TIL beacon is an outdoor lamp designed to be installed directly in the ground. Its main function is to mark paths, border gardens or delimit open-air areas with warm, directed light. It takes up no overhead space, requires no additional structure, and integrates without drawing too much attention to itself.

The result seen in the garden or at the entrance to the home is a low, continuous line of light without harsh shadows. The 2700K colour temperature produces a warm tone, similar to that of a candle or a traditional incandescent bulb. This type of lighting does not clash with vegetation or with the stone or wood finishes commonly used outdoors.

Installation and specifications

This lamp operates at 24V direct current. This means that installation requires a compatible transformer or power supply to step down the voltage from the domestic electrical mains to 24VDC. The connection must be carried out by a qualified electrician, especially outdoors where the wiring is exposed to moisture and temperature changes. Ground-level beaconing requires planning the cable route before fixing the pieces in place, and it is advisable to leave some slack in the connections to facilitate subsequent maintenance.

To clean the beacon, simply wipe the aluminium body with a damp cloth. The transparent glass diffuser can be cleaned with standard glass products, without abrasives. It is not recommended to use pressurised water directly on the connections or on the seals. If the lamp is installed in areas with fallen leaves or accumulated dirt, it is worth checking the diffuser periodically to prevent it from becoming opaque over time.

Design and use

The body of this beacon is made of aluminium with a matte black finish. Aluminium is a material that combines lightness and strength, and does not oxidise in the same way as steel. Outdoors, that detail matters. The black surface is not merely an aesthetic choice: it shows visible dirt less readily and maintains a clean appearance even after seasons of rain or dust.

The diffuser is made of transparent glass, allowing light to emerge without distortion. There is no colour filter or material that alters the 2700K colour temperature. What enters the glass is exactly what is projected outward. This produces clean light, without strange halos and without colour shifts depending on the angle.

The total height of 300 mm positions it as a low lamp, designed to guide the eye without dominating the space. In a garden, that size allows it to blend in among plants or alongside kerbs without visually interfering with the overall composition. On an access path, the sequence of beacons at that height creates clear signposting without the need for tall lanterns or posts.

The included COB LED consumes 3W. For an outdoor beacon oriented towards signposting and ambience, that power level is sufficient. The purpose is not to illuminate a work area, but to define a route or create a recognisable atmosphere at night. Several units placed in series can completely transform the perception of a garden or terrace when darkness falls.

The black colour of the body allows this lamp to combine well with materials such as dark wood, concrete, grey stone or modern metallic finishes. It also works as an accent light in gardens with dense vegetation, where a light colour might look out of place. In patios with terracotta floors or warm tones, the black acts as a clean contrast without appearing aggressive.

This beacon has no motion sensor or solar system. It operates connected to a fixed electrical installation with a 24V transformer. This makes it more suitable for permanent installations where precise control over when and how the light turns on is desired. Rechargeable or motion-sensor lights have their uses, but in thoughtfully designed gardens, a wired installation provides greater stability and a more uniform result.
