The FARO beacon is an outdoor lamp designed to be installed directly in the ground of terraces, gardens and patios. It marks the path of a walkway, delimits passageways or simply adds a warm, orderly light to open-air spaces. Its height of 660 mm makes it visible from a distance without being intrusive, and its dark grey silhouette integrates well with stone, porcelain tile or composite wood paving.

The body is made of die-cast aluminium, a material that withstands outdoor conditions well without losing its shape or appearance over time. The opal polycarbonate diffuser distributes light evenly, without bright spots or sharp shadows. This lamp does not include a bulb, allowing you to choose an LED source according to the actual needs of each space.

The design is the work of Alex & Manel Lluscà, two designers with a recognised track record in the outdoor equipment sector. FARO is a Spanish brand with decades of experience in lighting, both for interiors and outdoor spaces.

Installation and specifications

To install this beacon in the ground, it is necessary to prepare the electrical connection point in advance. The wiring must be buried or protected under the paving before fixing. It is recommended that installation be carried out by an electrician, as it involves working with wiring in a damp environment. Make sure the surface where the lamp is placed is firm and level to avoid vibrations or tilting over time.

For cleaning, a soft cloth slightly dampened over the aluminium body is sufficient. Do not use abrasive products or solvents that could damage the dark grey finish. The polycarbonate diffuser can be cleaned in the same way. Periodically check the condition of the anchor points and outdoor connections, especially after periods of heavy rain or frost.

Design and use

The FARO outdoor beacon responds to a specific need: illuminating paths, entrances and garden areas in an orderly and long-lasting way. It is not a supplementary lamp or merely a decorative lantern. It is a luminaire designed to work at night, under real outdoor use conditions, with materials that do not require constant attention.

The die-cast aluminium that forms the body is denser and more homogeneous than extruded aluminium, resulting in greater structural strength. The dark grey finish is not just an aesthetic choice. That tone performs well against environmental dirt, soil residue or dust that accumulates in any garden. In addition, the colour does not reflect ambient light in a bothersome way during the day.

The opal polycarbonate diffuser serves a clear technical purpose: it distributes light without creating areas of strong contrast. When installed along a path or on the sides of a terrace, the result is continuous, flicker-free illumination. There is no glare when looking directly at the lamp, which matters when the beacons are at eye level for a seated person.

This beacon accepts an E27 LED bulb of up to 15 W. By not including a bulb, the user can decide the colour temperature of the light, whether warm or neutral white, depending on how they want the space to look at night. A bulb of 8 or 10 W is usually sufficient to mark a route. If more visual presence is desired, you can go up to 15 W without exceeding the maximum power.

In a garden, several beacons placed at regular intervals along a path create a very clean visual effect. No additional lights are needed if the route is well planned. On a terrace, one or two units flanking the entrance already define the access without the need to install more light points. It is a type of lighting that does not draw attention to itself, but rather to the space it illuminates.

The traditional garden lantern is usually taller and bulkier. This beacon, with its 660 mm height and its 180 x 100 mm cross-section, takes up less visual space. That makes it also suitable for smaller areas, such as the sides of an outdoor staircase or the edge of a pool area or patio. The modern, restrained design by Alex & Manel Lluscà allows the piece to integrate without conflict alongside contemporary outdoor furniture or even with elements of a more classic style.

Compatibility with voltages between 100 V and 240 V means this lamp works without adapters in virtually any European or American domestic installation. The weight of 2.27 kg indicates solid construction without being excessively heavy for transport and installation.

Questions and answers

Does the beacon include an E27 bulb or does it need to be purchased separately?

The bulb is not included. The lamp accepts an E27 socket with a maximum power of 15 W. You can choose any E27 LED bulb that suits your lighting needs.

Does the die-cast aluminium body require any special treatment for outdoor use?

No additional treatment is required. Die-cast aluminium is naturally corrosion-resistant, and the dark grey finish is prepared for outdoor use without the need for extra protection.

Is it possible to install this beacon on existing paving or does it require groundwork?

Installation requires access to the electrical wiring from below. If the paving is already in place without provision for light points, it will be necessary to open a conduit for the cable. It is recommended to plan the installation before paving the area.
