Overview

The KILA beacon by FARO is an outdoor lamp designed to illuminate gardens, terraces and patios with a clean, tidy result. It is installed directly in the ground and directs light upward, marking paths, green area edges or entrances without the need for overhead cables or additional structures.

The design clearly separates the dark grey aluminium body and the semi-transparent glass diffuser, leaving the bulb visible inside. This transparency gives it a lighter appearance than other outdoor models, and it works well both during the day, as a decorative element integrated into the garden, and at night, when the light passes through the glass and creates a soft visual effect around it.

FARO is a Spanish brand with decades of experience in lighting. Its outdoor products are designed to withstand the typical conditions of outdoor use, with materials and finishes adapted to that environment.

Installation and specifications

For installation, it is necessary to prepare an outdoor power outlet or run the wiring to the anchoring point before placing the lamp. As it is a floor luminaire, it is advisable to plan the cable route in advance, preferably buried or protected under a conduit. It is recommended that the electrical connection be carried out by a qualified electrician. The base must rest on a stable and level surface so that the beacon sits straight and firm.

To clean the aluminium body, a damp cloth is sufficient, and if there is accumulated dirt, a neutral detergent. Avoid abrasive products or solvents that may damage the dark grey finish. The glass diffuser can be cleaned in the same way, taking care not to knock it. Periodically check the condition of the connection and the area around the lamp, especially after heavy rain or frost.

Design and use

The KILA collection by FARO brings together several outdoor luminaires sharing the same design line: aluminium for the structure and glass for the diffuser. In this particular model, the lamp measures 70 cm in height and has a square cross-section of 120 mm. It is a beacon designed to be installed in the ground, within a garden or at the edge of a terrace, where its presence is discreet during the day and functional when night falls.

The dark grey aluminium body integrates easily with stone, concrete or treated wood paving. It does not draw excessive attention, but it does not go unnoticed either. The transparent glass diffuser surrounds the bulb and allows light to be distributed visibly from multiple angles, unlike models with opaque diffusers that concentrate the beam upward.

This lamp uses an E27 socket, the most common on the market, and accepts an LED bulb of up to 15 W. The bulb is not included, which allows you to choose the colour temperature according to the atmosphere you want to achieve: a warmer light for a relaxation garden, or a more neutral tone if the lantern is part of functional pathway lighting. The universal voltage of 100V to 240V makes it compatible with the standard electrical grid without adapters.

The height of 70 cm places it at a distance from the ground that avoids direct glare when walking nearby, while at the same time projecting enough light to mark a route or define an area of the garden. It is an intermediate size: more visible than a flush beacon, but without occupying the visual space of a tall post lantern.

In terms of integration with the surroundings, the KILA beacon works well in installations with several units placed at regular intervals, for example along an access path or following the perimeter of a lawn area. It can also be used individually to highlight a specific point, such as the approach to a staircase or the edge of a swimming pool. Its square profile and dark grey finish give it a more contemporary look than rounded or vintage-style models, without being overly ornate.

Aluminium is a common material in outdoor luminaires due to its corrosion resistance and low weight. This lamp weighs 1.67 kg, which makes handling easier during installation. The glass diffuser offers a different visual presence from plastic: sharper, cleaner, with a transparency that does not yellow over time if properly maintained.

On a terrace, the beacon can be placed next to plant pots or at the ends of furniture areas to define the boundaries of the space without resorting to wall or ceiling lights. In a smaller patio, a single unit may be sufficient to provide ambient light during the night without being too intense.

Questions and answers

Does the beacon include a bulb or does it need to be purchased separately?

The bulb is not included. The lamp uses a standard E27 socket and accepts an LED light source of up to 15 W. You can choose the colour temperature that best suits the atmosphere of your garden or terrace.

Does the lamp require a fixed electrical connection or can it operate autonomously?

This beacon requires connection to the electrical mains. It is neither rechargeable nor equipped with a solar panel, so it is necessary to have an outdoor outlet or prepare the wiring to the installation point before placing it.

Is the glass diffuser resistant to continuous outdoor use?

The diffuser is made of glass and is designed for outdoor use as part of the KILA collection. To keep it in good condition, it is recommended to clean it with a damp cloth and avoid direct impacts, as glass is more fragile than other materials used in outdoor lighting.
